The Kickstarter campaign is over!

What a wild ride: we’ve collected nearly $1.7M CAD during the campaign’s 35 days! This is way beyond our expectations and it wouldn’t be possible without all of you. From all the team at SmartHalo: THANK YOU!

The Campaign in Numbers

You’ve just participated in a historic Kickstarter campaign. Here’s a look at the campaign in numbers, all made possible thanks to your pledges:

Missed the Campaign?

We’ve partnered with Indiegogo to stay available for those who missed the campaign and to reach backers from their platform. The price is obviously higher since it’s past the Kickstarter campaign and closer to the release, but we think it’s still a very good deal. Feel free to share with anyone who might be interested in SmartHalo 2!

A word from the founders of SmartHalo 2

Fellow cyclists,

With under a week to go for our Kickstarter campaign, we wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you. We’re nearing $1.5M CAD and this wouldn’t be possible without your support.

The funds we gather during this campaign get us closer to achieving our company’s vision: changing the way people move. Cycling, whether as transport or as sport, is a vector for that change. It’s healthy, it’s green, it’s efficient. We strongly believe it’s a key part of the solution to reach sustainable mobility in our modern cities.

We created this company 5 years ago to make cycling safer, easier and more fun. By improving the riding experience, SmartHalo 2 can help more people choose bikes over cars. Each additional bike on the road is an incentive to rethink our cities and make them more welcoming to even more cyclists. It might seem like baby steps in the bigger wheels of change, but each action counts towards democratizing bikes.

With a campaign that is poised to become one of the best cycling crowdfunding campaigns ever, we’re more determined than ever to build a cycling device you’ll love. Keep sharing your precious feedback to help us reach that goal.

From all the team, thank you for your support and for being part of the change.

7 New Features of SmartHalo 2

SmartHalo 2, now live on Indiegogo, has more than 30 improvements over its predecessor. Here are the top 7 improvements you should know about!

1. Introducing PeekDisplay™

An Extra Layer Just For You

PeekDisplay adds a new dimension to SmartHalo. Combined with the signature Halo, it provides all the info you need, while keeping it simple. Display metrics such as speed, distance and elevation or get valuable tidbits such as turn details, weather alerts and incoming caller ID while you ride.

2. Slicker, Lighter, Sturdier

New Lines, Same Rugged Design.

We’ve redrawn SmartHalo to integrate better with your bike’s aerodynamism. We’ve also completely redesigned a new sturdier Anti-theft mount along with a new HaloKey that is thinner and tougher.

3. Swipe Gestures

More Power at Your Fingertips

SmartHalo 2’s new swipe surface gives you more control over your device. Easily swipe between metrics of your choice and trigger predefined shortcuts with tap combinations.

4. Stronger Light

Shine bright like a diamond ♪└|∵|┘♪

SmartHalo 2 sports a completely redesigned, all-powerful front light. It is now a whopping 5x brighter than the original version. In addition, it is compliant with some of the newer, stricter regulations in Europe (we’ve heard you, German friends).

5. Revamped Navigation

Find the Way or Create Your Own

Navigation has been given a general overhaul: more options to customize your routes, GPX import and waypoints. You also get more info while using turn-by-turn navigation to make sure you’re on the right path.

6. Way More Integrations

Connect to What Matters

SmartHalo 2 integrates with more platforms that matter to you. This means you can get incoming notifications (with sender ID) from the apps that you use. But you can also trigger connected objects of your choice thanks to IFTTT support: tap on SmartHalo 2 to open your garage door and turn that Hue Light on at night.

7. Universal Quarter Lock Mount Support

Dock SmartHalo 2 on More Bikes

SmartHalo 2 comes with an Anti-theft mount but it is also compatible with Quarter Turn Mounts. This means you can easily install it on your secondary bike, road bikes, shared bikes or atypical handlebars. It also makes it easier to install SmartHalo on rental bikes when travelling.

It’s Here: Strava Integration with SmartHalo!

We’ve been cooking up this one for a little while now and we are excited to share it with you.

Introducing Strava Integration!

You spoke and we listened. Users with a Strava account will now have the ability to send ride data from SmartHalo to Strava. This is the first step to integrating the SmartHalo app with Strava, so look for continuous improvements to the Strava integration.

If you do not have a Strava account you can set one up if you wish to track & share every aspect of your cycling activity in a whole new way. Strava is a leading fitness app that creates a community for those looking to visualize their daily physical activity.

SmartHalo makes Strava even better because it tracks all your rides automatically via the fitness feature, unlike with the Strava app alone. You don’t need to think about it, just ride! This makes it easy to share your biking life with your Strava community (but only if you want to!).

How to link your Strava account

First, you’ll need to make sure you download the latest version of the SmartHalo app in the App Store or the Google Play Store (some phones will update apps automatically).

  1. Open the SmartHalo app and click on the profile icon (top left).
  2. Go to the “linked accounts” section in the left tab.
  3. Click on the Strava item.
  4. Click on “Connect to Strava”.
  5. Follow the instruction on the browser window that pops up.
  6. A pop-up notification will appear saying that you have successfully connected to Strava.
  7. The app will navigate to the Strava settings page.
  8. You can change your privacy policy settings in the Strava app if you desire.
  9. You will now be able to see your rides in Strava! Don’t forget to share the rides with friends!

New App Update Fitness: Delete rides

With over 1,057,589 trips logged by our SmartHalo community to date, we felt it was time to give you more control over your rides. This feature release will do just that!

Visualize Individual Rides

In the Fitness tab, you can now see your individual rides per day compared to before when you could only see a cumulative of the rides that you completed that day.

Delete Individual Rides

As part of that change you will also be able to delete individual rides that you may not want to include in your stats.

This gives you more control and a better overview of the metrics that matter to you and the individual rides that you take.

How do I use these new features?

Simple!

First, you’ll need to make sure you download the latest version of the app in the “App Store” or “Google Play Store” (some phones will update apps automatically).

Second, go into the Fitness tab of the SmartHalo app and select “Past”. You can now see the number of rides you made that day. Select a specific date to see your individual rides that day.

Lastly, deleting rides will depend on your device OS

  • iOS: Swipe left to delete the ride or tap the Edit button in the upper right corner which enables ride deletion by clicking the minus sign that appears.
  • Android: Tap the red X next to the ride you would like to delete.

New App Release: Bike Horn, Clock & Quick Touch

What time is it? It’s time for new SmartHalo features! This one’s good, we’ve got a bunch comin’ your way.

Speaking of time…

We just made it way easier to stay on schedule with a new “Clock” feature. Stop being late with the help of a clock you can display with a short tap on your SmartHalo. Gone are the days of pulling out your phone constantly to check the time.

SmartHalo integrated bike clock

Beep beep – Watch out! The Horn is finally here.

Yes, you heard that right. You now have a built in horn right at your fingertips. Simply long tap once on your SmartHalo to honk your way to a safer cycling experience.

Bike Bell

But that’s not all… Introducing Quick Touch.

Trigger actions (that could previously only be done through the app) directly through SmartHalo’s touch screen surface with Quick Touch. Want to navigate home? 3 short taps on SmartHalo and you’re good to go! Want to switch from Turn-by-turn to Compass navigation? Easy: 3 long taps. The brand new clock and horn features are also triggered with their own sequence.

Quick Touch Navigation

The best part? You can customize which tap combinations trigger each action. View and customize them within the Assistant tab.

SmartHalo Bike Assistant

To make sure these features are easy to use, we’ve also improved touch feedback: you’ll now hear a subtle sound when you tap and you’ll be able to view the touch sequence you’ve just input, even when connected.

How do I get these sweet new features?

Easy, just follow these 2 steps:

  1. Make sure you download the latest version of the app in the App or Google Play store (some phones will update apps automatically).
  2. Once that’s done, install the latest version of the firmware. You’ll need to be connected to SmartHalo to do it. Just tap on the top right icon (you’ll see a red notification dot appear on your SmartHalo icon) and tap on “New firmware update”. The update takes 5 minutes max!

We hope you enjoy these new features and improvements. Big thanks to everyone who has provided feedback: SmartHalo keeps getting better and better thanks to you. Stay tuned for more updates!

New App Release: Alternate Routes

When suggesting a path, SmartHalo always tries to find the route that strikes the best balance between safety, distance and speed. This being said, a single path can’t always be the best option, so today we are happy to announce Alternate Routes!

After updating to the latest version of the app, you will notice that when you search for a destination, you will now be given more than one option (unless there is only one logical path available). Not only can you tap directly on the path you prefer, but you can also open up the Alternate Paths menu up top to have a one-word description of each of those.

Want to make sure you’ll get to your date on time? Choose the fastest option that might make you bike more on faster streets. Feel like riding safely to your destination on mostly bike paths? Choose the safest option. Want to avoid hills to not break a sweat? Choose the flattest path. You can also choose the recommended path, which strikes a balance between all of those. The Alternate Paths menu will also indicate how much time each route takes. And once you select a path type, it’ll always default to that selection in the future.

We hope you like this update to the Navigation feature. A few of you have also asked for the addition of waypoints, we are working on that as well (plus other treats!). Stay tuned!
